Privacy Policy
Effective 1 October 2026
Stride is a step challenge for workplaces. Your phone counts your steps, Stride subtracts the ones recorded while you were in a vehicle, and what is left is ranked against the colleagues in your group. Stride is published by JB Web Developer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.
What we collect
Your account
- Email sign-up: your first and last name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash.
- Sign in with Google: your Google account ID, name, email address and profile picture URL. The picture is shown as your avatar to the people in your groups.
- Security settings, such as two-factor authentication if you turn it on.
Your steps
With your permission, Stride reads your daily step count from Health Connect on your phone. For each day it sends us one set of totals:
- the date;
- the steps your phone recorded that day;
- how many of those were subtracted as travel, and how many separate journeys that came from;
- the steps that counted, which is the first number minus the second.
We do not receive the times your steps happened, a timeline of your movements, your location, your heart rate, your weight, your sleep, or any other health data. Health Connect can hold all of those; Stride asks for steps, distance and exercise sessions only, and sends only the daily totals above.
Telling walking from travelling
Stride uses Google's Activity Recognition service on your phone to notice when you start and stop being in a vehicle. Those periods are written down on your phone and used to subtract the steps a rough road adds while you are sitting in a boda or a car. That record never leaves your device, and it is kept for seven days before being discarded.
Groups and chat
- The groups you join, your role in each, and when you joined.
- The messages you send in a group's chat, the announcements an admin posts, and the cheers, nudges and taunts sent between members.
- Your place in each group, kept so that the app can tell you when you have passed somebody.
Your settings and your device
- Your daily goal, distance unit, stride length and notification preferences.
- Security: sign-in sessions, with the IP address and app or browser details they came from, and a log of security-relevant actions on your account.
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera — the app blocks those permissions outright. We don't use advertising, advertising identifiers, or third-party analytics, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
- To run Stride: your account, your groups, the leaderboards, streaks, chat and alerts.
- To keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
- To find and fix bugs.
- To answer you when you contact support.
We do not use your health data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers. We do not use it to make decisions about you, and we never give an employer anything beyond what every member of the group can already see.
Who can see it
- Members of your groups see your name, your profile picture, your step counts, your streak and your place in the ranking for that group. People you have not shared a group with cannot see any of it.
- An admin of your group sees exactly what every other member sees. There is no report an admin can pull that shows more, and there is no view of your individual health data for an employer.
- Service providers who process data for us to run the service: our server hosting provider; Google (Sign in with Google); and our email provider, for account and security emails.
- The law: we may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you close your account we delete your steps, your snapshots and streaks, your group memberships, everything you said in a group chat, the cheers and nudges sent to you, your settings and your sessions. The account record itself is emptied of personal details — the name and email are removed — and closed, keeping only a random identifier and a record that a deletion happened, so that the deletion itself can be shown to have taken place. Any group you own is handed to its longest-standing admin, or to its longest-standing member if it has none. Copies in our backups are removed as those backups are replaced.
Your choices and rights
- Close your account in the app, under You → Close my account, or at /delete-account.
- Leave a group and you come off its board immediately. Your own history stays with you — it was never the group's.
- Withdraw permission to read your steps at any time, in your phone's Health Connect settings. Stride then has nothing new to count.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, by emailing jb@desishub.com.
Children
Stride is for people in workplaces and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Where your data is held
Stride's servers are hosted in the European Union. If you use Stride from elsewhere, your data is transferred there to be processed.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
